Side Order
A provocative exploration of a young woman’s planned tryst with a friendly couple explores the blurred boundaries of intimacy, friendship and status.
Lifelong friends Julia & Rose have shared everything in their lives, almost.
After 25 years of marriage, Rose & Tom have decided to open their relationship to other partners while Julia has spent her young adult life trying to find someone as perfect as Tom. One night Rose comes up with a plan to bring her best friend into the intimate fold of her marriage & give both Julia & Tom what they have wanted. But Rose’s real motivation lies in the desire to get her own needs met.
As the three navigate through the uncharted territory of sexual pleasure magnified by feelings accompanying friendship & love, bonds deepen & break simultaneously.
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
Sexuality is something our society tends to either exploit for money or hide completely, usually out of shame or fear of being vulnerable. And what is mostly available in the meida dealing with sexual exploration is porn, which magnifies erotic explorations like threesomes (or group sex), but totally removes the emotional and spiritual aspects of Eros altogether. Unfortunately, this eliminates the incredible opportunity to highlight how our sexuality, and the exploration of it, is a force for our greater consciousness and evolution.
In SIDE ORDER, I wanted to tell a story that included all aspects of opening oneself to the vulnerable nature of exploring intimacy and sex. It's meant to shed light on the fragile and sensitive nature of sexual encounters and the ample revelations it provides us about ourselves and those we engage with if we pay close attention. My ultimate goal was to reveal a more authentic depiction of one woman’s sexual exploration with people she cares deeply about. One where we see both the courage and vulnerability it takes to beyond her, and societies, comfort zone in pursuit of deeper love and belonging. In the end, it's a short story about bravely choosing to step off the cliff in order to find out who we truly are despite the risk of losing what’s most precious to us in the process.
